Power of the Spoken Word

Craig Harrison - Coffee With Jesus

As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus I was thinking of the POWER OF THE SPOKEN WORD. Being given the gift of speech we have the power to lift people up or destroy them. I read a quote from Zeno, a philosopher, “better to trip with the feet than with the tongue.” It goes on and says you can always get up after you fall but remember what you have said can never be unsaid especially if it’s cruel or hurtful.

When we follow Jesus, we must learn to control what we say. Sometimes in anger and frustration, we say things we don’t mean. From the same mouth, we can praise our God one moment and yet tear down another human being in another. It says in James 1:19, ”Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”

Today let us strive to be followers of Jesus, careful what we say so that we can build up HIS kingdom! Have a blessed day!

Good morning Monsignor, Zeno’s quote “better to trip with the feet than with the tongue…. As you can always get up after you fall but remember what you have said can never be unsaid especially if it’s cruel or hurtful.” Sadly folks are even faster to add their two cents when it comes to gossip. The rumor mill will spread lies which are hurtful, deceitful and painful. From this point the lies are compounded and spread like wildfire. This one act which can take an individual seconds to add to the rumor mill can cause irreparable damage in a person’s character and their integrity.

I speak from experience, once “the word” is released from the tongue to damage is forever done. Let’s be careful to only add comments if the lift up our fellow brothers, if not let’s keep our mouths shut. Instead let’s give gratitude, love and compassion. Our Father expects this from us, as we know better, we truly do. Let’s give HIM our adoration, our love, our gratitude and sing HIS praises instead.
It was so nice seeing you last night, can’t wait to continue our conversation, I meant what I wrote you on your priesthood birthday!
Much love Monsignor

Great message, as usual! I’ve been finding it interesting that events that happened years ago which my generation refused over and over again to help with, but that happened regardless, that their children or the next generation are now asking me to turn over everything I have on the events so they can claim the events for their organizations! They found out I couldn’t do that since the groups I did the event for said “NO!” due to the attitude that was presented years ago and is even worse in today’s generation! AND I don’t blame the groups at all that said NO to the requests since I tried and the groups tried to get others to participate and they kept refusing, but now suddenly want to claim the events, for their own organization (s) what they refused to participate in in the first place God was with me in my efforts and still is to this day! Amen and God Bless everyone!
