    Radical Relationships: Part 7

    by Craig F. Harrison September 9, 2026

Radical Relationships: Nurturing Evolving Family Bonds 🏠✨

Welcome to session seven of Reflections with Craig! Today, we are reflecting on how to navigate family relationships—a dynamic that can become increasingly complex as we grow older.

Having adopted eight children, being blessed with 20 grandchildren, and having many godchildren, I know firsthand that as your family grows up, the dynamic inevitably shifts. Kids move away, build careers, and raise their own children. We have to adapt rather than demanding they fill the exact same space in our lives that they once did.

    Keeping Family Connections Alive:

    • Drop the Expectations: Avoid being manipulative or controlling about their time. Focus instead on purely enjoying every moment you do get to spend with them.
    • Initiate, Don’t Wait: Don’t fall into the trap of saying, “They never call me, so I won’t call them.” Be the one to reach out via visits, calls, letters, or quick FaceTimes.
    • Celebrate Short Connections: A FaceTime call with a grandchild in college doesn’t need to last 20 minutes. Even a 2-3 minute check-in lets them know they are loved and thought of.
    • Show Up for Big Moments: Make the effort to attend family weddings, baptisms, birthdays, or simple monthly dinners. Showing up is how we continuously rebuild and honor those bonds.

As our time in this life rolls on, ask yourself: What do my loved ones need from me right now, and how can I keep our connection vibrant?

How do you stay intentionally connected with your busy family members? 🕊️
