The Nativity

Craig Harrison's Coffee with Jesus reflections provide a healthy cup of daily inspiration to start your day. Cover art by

As I sit in have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I see that a couple of my neighbors already have their Christmas trees out on the curb.  I want to tell them that Christmas is not over yet, that the Christmas season ends with the Epiphany.  So, we need to change our thinking about Christmas; it is not over, it has really just begun.  It is easy to fall into the idea of a secular Christmas where it’s all about the presents and the parties, and then, finally to say “Im glad it’s over.”  That is no way to welcome the birth of Christ.  The celebration needs to continue.

The tree may be dry, and some of the lights burned out, but it’s time to reflect on the Nativity.   The hoopla is over; now it is time to get into the true spirit of Christmas.

Today, we need to start thinking about the new year, how we are going to bring positive energy, joy, peace, and love into the world, and how we are going to REFOCUS, RECONNECT and RENEW!  Have a blessed day!

So many of my family and friends focused on shopping, parties and dressing up. I felt saddened for them as they missed the reason for this sacred Holy time. You’re correct, it’s not just one day, it’s 2 weeks. As we anticipate HIS arrival, then celebrate HIS birth. Due to my surgeries and recovery I HAD to scale down, I actually felt relieved, not as rushed nor stressed. During this time I’m literally a mess, trying to squeeze in shopping, wrapping, delivering gifts, decorating (which I LOVE to do) and sending out Christmas well wishes. Ifocused on the REASON behind this societal commercialized event. It’s NOT about “stuff, it’s about preparing our hearts for Jesus. The tree may be dry, and some of the lights burned out, but it’s time to reflect on the Nativity. Spending time praying and enjoying our family and friends. Especially due to the pandemic, my contact was limited to my bubble family. I’m grateful in this regard, I was able to readjust my perspective and refine my thoughts and ACTIONS to my FAITH. “To REFOCUS, RECONNECT and RENEW!”

You are correct. Christmas is not over until the Epiphany. My Mom taught us well. :-) Be well. -Marissa

Mine will remain up until Epiphany! My trees are small and artificial due to my allergies! Amen and GOD BLESS EVERYONE!
