Pain

Craig Harrison's Coffee with Jesus reflections provide a healthy cup of daily inspiration to start your day. Cover art by

As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I couldn’t help but think about the PAIN in the world today.  People grieving the loss of loved ones, PAIN in relationships, failed love, separation from family members, unhealed hurts.  But pain always leads to something GREATER!

Like a mother in labor, the pain is intense until she holds the new life entrusted to her.  Like the gold medalists who didn’t earn their medals without working through pain.  Every marriage that I have ever seen had to work through pain to enjoy a life with family and love.  It’s so easy to want to RUN from the pain, or numb the pain; Jesus’s example on the cross tells us to EMBRACE the pain.

Today, I will see God’s PERFECT plan working even in the pain.  I will draw closer to HIM and ask for the strength to grow strong!  Today we can embrace whatever struggles we have and know that God is working out HIS perfect plan.  We can pick up Our cross, or sometimes crosses, and trust in HIS plan.  We don’t need to not focus on the pain, but on the PROMISE!   Have a blessed day!

Good morning Monsignor, Through pain and suffering HE’s preparing us for our next wonderful Chapter. As we are hurt, sad and frustrated it’s hard to focus on the future, we get stuck on the here and now. But as you stated, focus on God’s promise, HIS perfect plan. I’ll share just 1 story, my brothers and I both are Blessed to have several rare genetic incurable potentially fatal “gifts” from God. When I was in pain at the beginning of our diagnosis I would complain. My brother told me one sentence and I had a paradigm shift in my thinking. My brother was as Army Ranger during the horror of 911, he lost many of his brothers in Iraq ans Afghanistan. His roles included being the lead, the medic. He saw PAIN, he felt PAIN, he SAW his brothers literally take their last breathes as he’s telling them to hold on and fight the PAIN. That they’d be ok even though their entrails were exposed. Now that’s PAIN. The sentence which changed my perspective is this, “if you have PAIN, that means you’re ALIVE.” He explained, yes you and I have pain from our illnesses, enjoy and relish our PAIN, as if we don’t have PAIN we are DEAD! That’s all I needed, he is right, just honor the PAIN and now somethings greater is coming. God’s perfect plan is in motion, we just need to relish and enjoy the pain, as we will be given something wonderful! Thank you fir your inspirational messages
