Forgiveness

Craig Harrison's Coffee with Jesus reflections provide a healthy cup of daily inspiration to start your day. Cover art by

As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I was thinking about the word Forgiveness.  I was reflecting on all that Jesus went through.  I think of all the people He had to forgive on His journey, the disciples who abandoned Him, the people who mocked Him and, of course, those who lead to His crucifixion.  And then I think about all the people I need to forgive on my journey.  I think of the people in my life who have hurt me or betrayed me.  Sometimes it’s easier for me to plan their demise than to forgive them!

But I know what Jesus expects of me, to forgive seventy times seven.  In Ephesians 4:32 the Scriptures say, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you.”  And Matthew 6:14 says, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.”

Today, I’m going to name the people that I need to forgive and pray that God opens my heart to that gift.  We have the gift of a God that never stops forgiving us, and He calls us to do the same.

Have a blessed day!

Good morning Monsignor, this is one hard oil to swallow for some of us, myself included. I believe those of us who’ve been wronged or betrayed, are being tested to see if we will follow in Jesus’s steps, forgive ALL. It’s that simple, no ifs ands or buts. All is ALL, regardless of what the offender did. As Jesus will forgive us 70 x 7 for anything we may do. This quote, “Sometimes it’s easier for me to plan their demise than to forgive them!” is my true sentiment. I get angry, upset and hurt all over again just thinking of what occurred. I must force myself to not wish ill on them. I force myself to pray on their behalf, I’m not perfect as there are days I pretend I’m throwing darts at their photos. Thank you for this poignant reminder, we must place compassion, love and forgiveness in our hearts. Have a blessed day
