As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I was thinking about “SLOWING DOWN.”  Sometimes it seems that time has slowed down so much that I don’t even know what day it is until I wake up and look at my watch!  And other times, it speeds up almost out of control.

We need to slow down and take a few moments to reconnect with our Creator.  This doesn’t cost a thing, but it gives everything!  Sitting  outside in a favorite chair watching the seasons change, taking the dog for a walk, watering the yard, baking something for someone, calling an old friend, or going for a drive are all times when you can really focus on God’s handiwork.  SLOWING DOWN should remind us about living in the PRESENT moment, enjoying the presence of God. 

Today, there are some things I must do, but I am also going to consciously take time to SLOW DOWN and acknowledge the presence of God!

As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I was reflecting on the phrase, “God uses broken things.”  Throughout the Scriptures, God has always used those people who are completely broken to fulfill His promises.  Whether you have been BROKEN emotionally, physically, or spiritually, GOD can use you.  If you have been broken with your ambitions, or finances, or relationships, or worldly reputation, HE needs you!  Whether you are broken with health issues, or mental illness, or addiction, God can still use you!  In the Bible, we see that these are often the kinds of people God uses.

Each morning, as I begin my day with the Lord, I am aware of my own brokenness.  At times, I draw inward and I feel I want to throw myself a “pity party”.  But then, as the Lord opens my heart, I realize HE needed this brokenness for a greater plan.  Don’t get me wrong.  I would rather be strong and in control, but, evidently, that is not HIS plan.

Today, I am going to give my brokenness to the Lord so that HE can piece together what HE needs to make this world a better place.  Just like the BODY of CHRIST must be broken before it can be shared, so it is with us.  Today, do not be afraid.  Allow GOD to use your brokenness to heal a broken world.

 As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I was thinking about all the responses yesterday about BROKENNESS.  A few friends came by and we shared our own brokenness.  One shared about a disconnect from a child, one shared about the fear they are experiencing with the chaos in the world, and I talked about the despair that happens when your life gets turned upside down.

The beauty of our discussion was that we could all be vulnerable.  We realize that each of our pain differs in some ways; it is really just pain. 

We talked about the HEALING needed in our lives.  Henri Nouwen says, “The first step to healing is not a step away from the pain, but a step toward it.”  I like this quote, but it is easier said than done.  He challenges us to think of one kind of brokenness in our life that we have avoided rather than befriended.

Today, with the help of Jesus, I’m going to strive to embrace the brokenness, the pain, the abandonment, and TRUST in HIS healing GRACE.  Brokenness does not make us victims unless we allow it.  One of my favorite actions in the Mass is when the priest takes the Eucharist and breaks it.  It reminds me of our oneness with JESUS and HIS brokenness. Today is going to be a great day because I am not alone in my brokenness! I have Our Lord and so do you!  Have a beautiful day!

As I sit and have my cup of coffee with Jesus, I was thinking about BROKENNESS.  During the holiday season, it is a time I think about my family and those I have lost.  I become very aware of my own BROKENNESS AND LOSS.

I think one of the things that connects us as human beings is our own BROKENNESS.  Our brokenness tells us something about ourselves.  

Your brokenness tells me something about you, and mine about me. 

I don’t know if one person’s suffering is greater than another.  SUFFERING is such a personal thing, but when we connect our brokenness, something very real happens.

The greatest brokenness is our separation in relationships. We need to embrace our brokenness, to name it, and then, the most painful part, see it as a gift. The last couple of years, I feel like the vase that has been shattered into a million pieces. 

When I search for the silver lining, I see how many other broken people have come to me. We share stories and tears, and that is not easy.  I could write books on BROKENNESS.  At times, I feel lonely, disconnected, scared, and very vulnerable, and that is when God brings amazing people who share their BROKENNESS.  This Advent season, I light my candle for all those who know what it means to be BROKEN but to have faith. This is why Jesus came into the world.

Today I lift up all those who feel BROKEN.  You are not alone.  And WE are the reason that JESUS came!  Have a blessed day as Jesus sends HIS healing!
